U.K.SEQUENCE DANCING INFORMATION
(and American Round Dance)
This form of dancing is mainly a U.K. phenomenon.  It is divided into three sections Standard (Modern), Latin-American and Old Time. The different sequences are made up from Standard (Modern), Latin-American and Old Time dancing steps and there are many different dances which have been created by Dance Teachers, Dance Leaders etc.  At a Sequence Dance evening / afternoon the leaders would dance solo for the first 16 of the chosen tune after which the rest of the dancers join them on the floor.  This means that the whole floor is dancing the same steps at the same time.  Some of the most popular sequence dances are Balmoral Blues, Tango Serida, Mayfair Quickstep, Sally Ann Cha Cha and Rumba One.

SEQUENCE MUSIC INFORMATION

The name 'Sequence' derives from the fact the dance steps are made to be a certain length and then they repeat, this length is normally 16 bars but there are some dance sequences that last for 32 bars.   Music for this kind of dancing has to be strictly regimented with a four bar intro and then strict sequences of 16 bars in length with the changes appearing quite obvious to all the participants, any crossover or extra bars added to a given sequence would destroy the enjoyment for all.  Although much normal Ballroom Dancing music is suitable for Sequence dancing we at DANCE AND LISTEN LIMITED produced music especially for this kind of event. The music is non-vocal played by electric organ, piano or accordion, it is also very suitable for easy listening as the repertoire mainly consists of tunes from the 30s,40s,50 and 60s so producing a very nostalgic appeal.
